CBS News provide extensive news coverage through their Web site from their existing CBS Worldwide Inc. team of correspondents. Perceptions of objectivity of online news
Of all the news sources available today, radio, television, online, newspaper or other the most frequently accessed news source from my survey results is television. Television is accessed most due to habit versus convenience or reliability. Television was also rated as the most trustworthy news source available today. Newspaper (not internet) was rated as the most unreliable news source.
From the survey results, it is also noted that people feel that of the online sources available, not all online sources are reliable. Some are more trustworthy and reliable for accuracy of news than others. Personally, I feel that what makes an online news source more reliable is the organization itself, not the fact that it is posted on the internet. For example, CNN is reliable to me regardless of whether the information posted by CNN is on the internet or on the television. If a news source is reputable, it does not matter which vehicle they use to disseminate the information.
In conclusion, online news sources have the ability to offer the most up to the minute news coverage. With all other news sources there will be a lag from the original story to the update of the story. Newspaper will have to wait until the next publishing, radio will update with the next news segment, and television will be the same unless the channel is a 24 hour news channel. If the update or news story is a major story, the television may interrupt an existing news story to update you. Online also offers you the ability to access other links to the same story to get more in-depth information.

Colton Country Days

Fun had by all at Colton Country Days
Frog jumping, live music, bouncy houses, spaghetti dinner and fireworks marked the day’s events. The event kicked off at 9:00 a.m. on Main Street in Colton on Saturday. There were many vendors for the craft fair, as well as many patrons. The streets were full of people by 10:00 am when the annual frog jumping contest took place. The big winner this year was Freddie the frog who jumped 9.4 feet in his first three leaps. A silent auction took place, live entertainment which included jazz and rock n roll along with many food vendors contributing to the day’s event. The day was also celebrated with many Colton alumni who got to share stories and pictures of their lives. The day ended with an ice cream social in the evening followed by fireworks.

Yippee its Friday
Its Friday and its supposed to rain. Oh well I still have homework to do. Im taking 13 credits in 8 weeks so no rest for the wicked. Spent the last 2 days on the river with an old class mate from years ago. What a blast, as its so much fun to reminisce and get caught up. Of course the sun and 1-2 toddies didnt hurt the event either. Big day in Colton, tomorrow, its Country Days which is what my news report will be about. Frog jumping and all sorts of activities for kids. Should be a suspense packed news story.

Comparing News Coverage
For this assignment, I had to purchase a newspaper. I prefer to stay updated with the news by watching it on television and/or reading it on the internet. I purchased the Watertown Daily Times and chose to pick whatever strory was on the front page. The major story was "BP Happy with Oil Leak effort". There was one picture on page one and one picture and the majority of the story on page A-9. That to me is the first weakness of newspaper. The newspaper (understandably) trys to put as many eye catching stories on the front page but because of space limitations they have to send you to another page to finish the story. The other weakness of newspaper is by the time it is in my hands there have been changes or updates to the story which I wont be able to read until the next day when the new paper comes out. The article does keep my attention and is well written for the majority of the story. I dont have any other choices of related articles to read about though, like how far has the oil spread now?
I then went to cnn.com and instantly had more up to date information on how the new cap was doing. I also had the option to click on a tracker button to see arial views of how far the oil has travelled. I also could click on maps, photos, full coverage, or the interesting title "New cap in on the well, what now?" So I felt much more informed about the event. The weakness to internet is that there are almost too many choices to get information and from one web site to another, the information is not always the same. The third avenue for getting information on this event is of course television and I like to watch Katie Couric on CBS. I feel like Im getting up to date information when I watch this but I cant watch it when I want to. I have to wait until 6:30 each night to get the latest on the oil spill and the new cap success or failure. I love to watch it though because there are always intersting reports, and its no holds barred when watching the reporter having no fear in attacking BP representatives. I hate to have to watch commericials but if you are a lazy reader like me, the television is the way to go.

Blogger Challenged
Hello everyone,
OK, Im going to master this blogger thing if it kills me. Thanks Diana Norman for getting me started. I guess I cant use the "Im the non-traditional" older student excuse because there are bloggers alot older than me. I only have one question for anyone brave enough to answer: How do you decide or come up with things to write about each day?
